Enjoying a secluded and tranquil location on the outskirts of the pretty hamlet of Auchenmalg, this stunning property makes a fantastic family holiday home. Offering luxurious accommodation for up to four guests, the property is set on a working farm and has some splendid sea views which you can admire from the comfort of a private hot tub. This fabulous lodge is situated in a breathtaking elevated position overlooking the glorious Luce Bay and features a wonderful roaring fire pit for you to relax by. A sandy beach is within half a mile, close to Scotland’s second-oldest pub.

Entering this light and spacious single-storey lodge you will find the bright and welcoming open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner which features floor-to-ceiling windows offering glorious sea views. With a Smart TV, Bluetooth speaker, cosy wood burner and comfortable seating, the lounge is a lovely space to unwind in the evening. The attractive kitchen is kitted out with a range of equipment so you can cook all your favourite meals which you can share in the sweet dining area. Exploring further, you will find two fresh and cosy bedrooms, each with a Smart TV and decorated in relaxing neutral tones: the master bedroom offers a king-size bed and en-suite shower room, and there’s also a delightful twin room with a 2’6” twin zip-and-link bed which can be made up as a king-size on request. The main bathroom is complete with a shower over the bath and a WC.

Outside, the property has a large garden with a patio, several seating areas over a couple of levels and a lovely private hot tub allowing you to lie back and take in the glorious views across Luce Bay. Featuring a BBQ and fire pit, the garden makes a wonderful location for a spot of al fresco dining.

Located at the head of the Machars peninsula, Auchenmalg is perfect for keen cyclists and walkers, with the beautiful 5-mile Stairhaven Coastal Circuit on the doorstep. To the north is the picturesque Wigtownshire village of Glenluce (5 miles). Nestling in a delightful valley, the village is known for the ruins of the 12th-century Glenluce Abbey which houses a museum of monastic life. Glenluce also has some lovely shops and great places to eat and drink, and the nearby river – the Water of Luce – is ideal for a spot of salmon and sea trout fishing. This is a fabulous area for eager anglers, walkers, golfers and cyclists, and marks the start of the 50-mile Pilgrim Way. Other local attractions include Glenwhan Gardens (9.5 miles), the remains of Chapel Finian (4 miles) and the Torhouse Stone Circle (16 miles). Heading east you can explore the glorious hammerhead-shaped peninsula known as the Rhins of Galloway. Here you will find the peaceful fishing village of Portpatrick (18.5 miles), several superb golf courses and the Mull of Galloway, Scotland’s most southerly point (22 miles). The thriving ferry port of Stranraer (14 miles) has a variety of independent shops, pubs and restaurants, with popular local attractions including the Stranraer Museum and the Castle of St John which dates back 500 years. Other attractions on the peninsula include the magnificent Castle Kennedy Gardens (10 miles), Killantringan Lighthouse (4.5 miles) and the beautiful Logan Botanic Garden (14 miles).

Such an amazing lodge, has everything you could possibly need. For me, the hot tub & fire pit made it all the more special, especially when you can sit and star gaze & listen to the crashing waves at night. Waking up to bird song and cows mooing, relaxing looking at the sea in the distance and watching hares play in the fields - what more could you ask for? We had a very enjoyable stay at Hillside. It was very clean, well-equipped, tastefully decorated and in beautiful surroundings. We made use of the hot tub every day. One of the highlights of our stay was seeing the stars on a clear night. Janice and Derek were excellent hosts. We had a very good meal at The Cock Inn nearby.

The lodge was immaculately clean, the best equipped place we have ever stayed in with fantastic views of Luce Bay. Janice and Derek were amazing hosts welcoming us on arrival, showing us round the lodge, explaining how everything worked and gave us information on places to visit.
