A romantic retreat for two set in the grounds of historic Drummond Castle, it’s the perfect spot for a couple planning to explore the beautiful Perthshire landscape and Trossachs National Park. This secluded first-floor apartment, in a stone-built former coach house exudes character and charm. On your doorstep are wonderful scenic walks and bike rides, while the magical hills and lakes of the Trossachs are within 13 miles. The lively market town of Crieff is just 3 miles away, where you will find an excellent selection of shops and restaurants as well as the popular Hydro Resort.

Climb an external stone staircase to reach your peaceful hideaway. Beautifully furnished in contemporary style, with lush fabrics in shades of forest green and accents of grey, this is a welcoming place to relax in comfort at the end of the day’s adventures.

A spacious hall with storage for coats and boots leads to an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with sumptuous seating that invites you to snuggle up in front of the wood burner. The streamlined kitchen has everything a keen cook needs to rustle up cosy suppers and there are lovely countryside views from the pretty dining area. There is a glamorous boutique feel to the spacious king-size bedroom, complemented by the en-suite which boasts a beautiful chandelier, double-ended free-standing bath and large, rainfall shower.

Outside, there is seating in a shared garden area, while within the grounds are a small lake with resident swans and views of distant mountains. During your stay, you also have free, unlimited access to the famous Drummond Castle Gardens. These splendid, formal terraced gardens, dating back to the 17th century, and are familiar to TV viewers as one of the magnificent Scottish locations seen in the TV series Outlander. Canine companions are welcome to join your stroll, but please keep pets on a lead.

Enjoy browsing Crieff’s independent shops and taste-test its reputation for a fine fare at one of the many restaurants. A town centre farm shop with a deli is a great place to find local produce such as artisan breads, meats and vegetables sourced from small farms. Visit the renowned Hydro Resort to sample one of a wide range of outdoor activities, from quad biking and horse riding to treetop walks. Or for more leisurely pursuits, indulge yourself in pampering sessions in the health spa. The beautiful River Earn runs alongside the town and you can follow its course during the 3.5-mile circular path known as Lady Mary’s Walk, which brings you back to town.

At picturesque Glenturret Distillery (5 miles), the oldest in Scotland, they have been making fine, hand-crafted whisky since 1763. Take a tour to see how it’s done and perhaps sample a wee dram yourself.

Another historic national institution well worth a visit is the remarkable Innerpeffray Library (8 miles), housed in the pretty hamlet from which it takes its name. Scotland’s first free public lending library, it was founded in 1680 and closed only in 1968. The library was used by local people who sought to educate themselves, and you can still read the books they chose in this diverse collection. Tours are run by volunteers, so please check the website to plan a visit.
