There is a lot of spectacular scenery in this area of Scotland, either on foot or by bike. From the property, mosey around the 220-acre grounds of the Blair Estate (1.5 miles), where you'll be met with ample walks, ancient woodland and manicured flowerbeds. Alternatively, travel back through time and walk the same halls as King William I by peaking inside Blair Castle. With over 900 years of rich heritage to explore, the castle boasts one of Scotland's oldest continually inhabited mansions, with many incredible rooms to tour. Further afield, Kelburn Castle (13.5 miles) and Culzean Castle and Country Park (33 miles) are open to visitors daily and provide hours of amazement.

There are several world-class championship courses for golfers, including Royal Troon and Prestwick Golf Club, which both sit within 16 miles of the accommodation. Slower afternoons come easy at the seaside town of Largs (11 miles), which has a charming Victorian promenade and a choice of ice cream parlours and unique souvenir shops. To the south of the town, stroll down to Largs Yacht Haven, the largest marina in Scotland, to enjoy watching the boats bob in and out of the harbour.

The lively city of Glasgow is 25 miles away, or a 25-minute train journey from the nearest station of Dalry (2 miles). Find Glasgow's music scene on a city walking tour, uncover treasures at its art galleries and museums, follow the mural trail around the city centre or venture into its cathedral to admire its imposing medieval interiors.

We were warmly welcomed by the host, and helped out throughout the week with a positive attitude everytime. Gorgeous little cabin, very cosy and perfect for a quiet time away. The hot tub is just amazing, as you can sit there with a drink in hand on the hill with the lovely views in front of you.
