This rural retreat boasts a peaceful setting, amidst the picturesque scenery of the Angus Glens. The property sleeps four guests and is ideal for nature-loving couples and adventurous families, with a whole host of walking and cycling trails on your doorstep. The Munros of Mayar and Dreish dominate the skyline, and you’ll also find tracks and trails through the surrounding forest and along the river. Just 3.5 miles down the glen is a delightful pub and restaurant, and you’ll find more eateries and shops in Kirriemuir (19 miles away).

The cosy annexe sits alongside the main lodge and is full of characterful period features. The property has a real home-away-from-home vibe, with a collection of quirky accessories adding personality and charm to each room.

On the ground floor you’ll find an elegant lounge/diner, where you can unwind after a day of outdoor activity. On chilly evenings, fire up the wood burner and snuggle into the plump sofa to watch a film on the Smart TV. At one end of the room, you’ll find a large dining table for sharing mealtimes as a group. A separate kitchen, with views across the surrounding landscape, has everything you need to create culinary delights using local ingredients. The two inviting bedrooms – a double and a twin - are upstairs, along with the family bathroom.

Heading outside, discover a tranquil haven in which to unwind. The patio garden is fully enclosed, making it ideal for canine visitors, and has seating for al fresco dining, along with a BBQ (on request).

The area surrounding the cottage is a paradise for keen walkers. The magnificent Glen Clova, which forms part of the Angus Glens, is 4 miles away and has a choice of routes to its high points, where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views across Loch Brandy. Another popular path takes you through Corrie Fee – an amazing natural amphitheatre – and onto Mayar and Driesh (approx. 1 mile). Due to their close proximity, it’s possible to bag yourself two Munros in one day! For a more relaxing stroll, head deep into Glen Doll Forest (0.5 miles), where you’ll find scenic riverside paths and numerous picture-postcard picnic spots.

The pretty town of Kirriemuir, with its winding, narrow streets and cute cottages, is 19 miles away. The town has a good range of independent shops and boutiques, along with eateries serving local dishes. You can also visit the birthplace of JM Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, and enjoy panoramic views from the camera obscura that he gifted to the town. Wildlife lovers will adore RSPB Loch of Kinnordy, just outside the town, where you can view many rare wetland birds from the hides and boardwalks.

Glamis Castle, 24 miles from the property, makes a great day out. Uncover 600 years of Scottish history in this childhood home of HM The Queen Mother, before exploring the immaculate gardens or sampling some delicious local produce in the restaurant.

What a lovely place to stay. We found the peace and quiet we were looking for. Our host Catherine was attentive and friendly, quite outstanding in fact. We will certainly go back.
