Explore the dramatic Northwest Highlands of Scotland from this gorgeous cottage at Poolewe. Sleeping five guests, the three-bedroom retreat, which comes with winter-warming wood burners and a pretty garden for summer, looks out over the River Ewe. Enjoy it as a base from which to discover the rugged peaks, picturesque lochs and ancient woodlands of Wester Ross.
Tear yourselves away from the astounding scenery to let yourselves into the cottage via the front door and hallway. Head through to the snug for a little quiet time, with the wood burner crackling and the Smart TV streaming. Wander through the double glass doors to the farmhouse kitchen/diner. This friendly space is where you will prepare tasty meals for your nearest and dearest and call them to join you at the table. Pass pleasant evenings in each other’s company through in the lounge. Here you have a second wood burner and Smart TV, plus doors to the garden that can be opened up on bright, sunny days. Also downstairs are a utility room, family bathroom and single bedroom. Head up to the first floor to find the family shower room, plus a double bedroom and a king-size, each with a relaxation space. Wake up to river views in either of these bedrooms. Take the children out to play on the lawn, supervising them at all times because of the proximity of the river. Enjoy summer lunches at the picnic table as you take in the views. There is private, off-road parking here for two cars.
Amble 300 metres to where the river joins Loch Ewe. Head 1 mile along the shores to the National Trust for Scotland’s beautiful Inverewe Garden, with its incredible collection of rare species. Wander over 2 miles in the other direction to reach the shores of Loch Maree.
