Situated on a private estate in rural Aberdeenshire is this charming three-bedroom property. Surrounded by fields and woods and located next to a river, it’s the perfect retreat for a family or group of friends looking to immerse themselves in nature.

This handsome home is a welcoming space with pleasant decor, rich tones, and colourful pictures on the walls.

On the ground floor, kick off boots and relax on the plump sofas in the lounge. The large windows, heavy drapes, and soft furnishings create a sense of comfortable splendour, and with plenty of space for everyone, you can chat, read a book or watch a film on the Smart TV. There’s a fireplace here too, to keep things cosy on cooler nights. Off the lounge, there’s a homely kitchen kitted out with every modern appliance you’ll need for a comfortable stay and a small breakfast table, perfect for a casual bite to eat. For more sociable meals, step through to the conservatory and dine at the table with seating for six people. There’s also a handy shower room on this floor.

Upstairs, a sense of charm and elegance sweeps through the three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms feature king-size beds while the remaining room features a twin. Wooded hills, salmon and trout fishing, and a nearby activity centre mean you’ll find something for everyone here. The surrounding forests are brimming with wildlife including squirrels and roe deer while bird lovers can enjoy spotting peregrines, ospreys, and pine martens. Fishing enthusiasts can purchase a permit and spend the day trout and salmon fishing on the River Deveron that runs through the estate’s grounds.

For a family day out, head to the town of Huntley (7.5 miles). This historic town is packed with excellent cafes and restaurants and children will love sampling the famous local produce including shortbread and ice cream. History lovers can visit Huntley Castle, dating back to the 12th century, or explore the stately Leith Hall (14 miles) with its 17th-century tower house and vast landscaped gardens.

Back in Huntley, children can enjoy skiing, roller skating, and tubing at Huntley’s outdoor centre while adults can discover Scotland’s oldest working distillery. Learn how whiskey is produced then sample a dram from the distillery bar.

Superb cottage and location. Premises to a very high standard. Only down side no O2 mobile phone signal within the cottage as we were in the area for work. But for purely vacation reasons I could not fault. The Forbes Hotel less than a mile away is excellent for very good pub grub and excellent real ales.
