A galley kitchen offers all you need for a well-catered break. The master bedroom is spacious, with a super-king-size bed (that can be reconfigured as twin beds on request) and there is also a contemporary-styled shower room with waterfall shower.

Invite the outdoors in and throw open the patio doors to the enclosed lawned area, which overlooks the River Nith. Here you can sit back with a dram in hand and witness wild salmon leaping from the water! Guests also benefit from having access to the restaurant and bar in the on-site traditional country house.

A holiday here is sure to be a haven for walkers and lovers of the outdoors, with an abundance of natural activities to be enjoyed directly from your doorstep. At the end of the garden lies the River Nith, which is a wonderful spot to enjoy salmon fishing – or at the very least to sit back and witness them leaping from the cool, fresh water!

Seasoned walkers can explore Britain’s first coast-to-coast footpath, the Southern Upland Way; running from Portpatrick in Dumfries and Galloway to Cockburnspath in the Scottish Borders, it presents 214 miles of varied scenery on an epic scale. Or if you’re looking for a more sedate pace, there are many scenic routes from Sanquhar, including The Historic Walk and Sanquhar to Scaur Water. The village itself (0.5 miles) offers a range of amenities including a cafe, pub, bakery and golf club. Its Tolbooth Museum, located in the iconic Georgian townhouse building in the village square, offers up plenty of interesting local history.

Locally, there are plenty of attractions to enjoy; the incredible land art, Crawick Multiverse sits just 1.5 miles away and is a wonderful place to explore, or the more traditional Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens is 10.5 miles.

The Riverside Cottage was lovely and warm on arrival with the lovely extra addition of a vase of fresh flowers. The phone call from the host 10 minutes after arrival asking if there was anything we needed was another lovely touch which we have not received at any other self catering property. Everything was spotlessly clean. The view over the RiverRead more Nith was stunning. We even sat out one morning having our coffee to appreciate the view (even though it was March!). A tranquil gem! Disappointing in need of some refurbishment. Kitchen basically kitted out no wall cabinets so glasses loose in a drawer. Dishwasher tablet holder did not close no instructions for this or washing machine. Leaky toilet pipe with cut off plastic box catching drips no toilet brush. Bin at door not emptied from previous guests. Leaking gutter at front Read moredoor meant go soaked going in and out of property in rain. Tired and not great so left early. Stayed in lots of properties which are much better. Hide

Lovely little cottage next to the river-beautiful view and the sound of the river so relaxing. It was warm & reasonably well equipped but generally seemed a little tired so is probably ready for a make over. Ate at hotel several evenings-the food is gorgeous and well worth a visit.

Great place. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend for dog owners & nature lovers in general. Many walks straight from the front door. Hotel food was delicious & owners were warm & friendly. We tried the bar and a la carte menus.....both great. Bar was being refurbed while we were there. Once it is completed, it will be another great option of an evening.

The cottage was lovely and cosy, especially as the weather was not good. However on the one sunny day we had it was lovely to sit outside beside the river. Being able to use the Hotel bar and restaurant was great, exceptional food and very friendly staff. Would highly recommend this cottage.
