Open-plan interiors with plenty of natural light pouring in through the large bi-folding balcony doors makes for an excellent space to socialise with your three other guests and a canine companion. This property is located down a quiet country lane in the small Scottish hamlet of Aberlemno, in the county of Angus. Just 6.5 miles away is the historic town of Forfar, where you can learn about the witches who once lived there in the Forfar Meffan Museum. In addition to checking out the array of shops and restaurants, during your visit to the town, make sure you try the traditional pastry snacks called Forfar Bridie.

For a wholesome day out, the Murton Farm, Tearoom and Nature Reserve is 7.5 miles away, where you can meet farm animals, walk around the loch and enjoy some lunch in the tea room. Next to here is the larger Rescobie Loch (5.5 miles).

Head to the coast to find the dog-friendly Lunan Bay, which is an excellent place for a swim on the golden sandy shores. Near here is the former royal burgh, Montrose (15 miles). This seaside town has a wide sandy beach, an art gallery, and a museum in its centre. Wildlife enthusiasts will love the Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre (14.5 miles), where you can hire high-powered telescopes and watch the birds from the hides.

Plenty of castles are nearby, too – such as the former childhood home of Queen Elizabeth, the 14th century Glamis Castle (12 miles) and Guthrie Castle (7 miles). The closest to visit is the 16th-century Melgund Castle (3 miles).

Amazing location which maximises the views very well, really enjoyed the balcony for a morning coffee and with a heat lamp took the chill away. Swimming pool was a really nice touch and the kids enjoy both this and the zip wire! Spotless clean, very well kept and presented. Will absolutely be coming back again
