For a day filled with wholesome activities, the Murton Farm, Tearoom and Nature Reserve is 7.5 miles away. Here, you can meet the farm animals, walk along the loch and refuel at the tea room.

If you’re craving a day by the coast, head to the dog-friendly, golden shores of Lunan Bay (17 miles). Near here is the former royal burgh of Montrose (15 miles), a traditional seaside town with an art gallery, museum and a wide sandy beach. Wildlife enthusiasts should visit the Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre (14.5 miles), where you can bird watch with high-powered telescopes.

One must-see is the historic town of Forfar (6.5 miles). Here, you can try the traditional pastry snack, a Forfar Bridie. You can also learn the tales of witches who once lived here at the Meffen Museum or follow the heritage trail to see the most significant landmarks in the town, dating as far back as the Stone Age.

A Scottish break wouldn’t be complete without seeing a castle. The closest is the 16th-century Melgund Castle (3 miles). Or visit Queen Elizabeth’s childhood home, the 14th-century Glamis Castle (12 miles away).
