This superb stylish lodge with private hot tub and spectacular secluded bay coastal views makes a fantastic base for a romantic getaway and to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Located close to the shoreline of Rascarrel Bay, this single-storey lodge with a private hot tub is a stylish countryside escape for a couple. Set on a quiet stretch of coastline, with a village shop 2.5 miles away, and yet still within reach of a wide range of pretty towns and local attractions, it’s a rural retreat without being too cut-off.

Inside, the lodge is luxurious with plenty of space for you to feel comfortable and relaxed. Classic décor with colourful details gives the property a welcoming, homely atmosphere, while the vaulted ceilings and large windows let in lots of natural light and make the most of the breathtaking views.

Enter the property up a small set of steps. Shoes and coats can be left in the hallway, or store items that need a refresh after your adventures in the handy utility room for a wash later on. In the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, cook a dinner made with locally sourced produce and sit down for a romantic meal at the dining table set for two. Curl up together on the sofa to watch a film on the lounge’s TV/DVD, or head straight to bed and watch TV from the comfort of the duvet. The king-size bedroom has its own dressing room, so there is ample storage space for your belongings. Down the hall is the elegantly designed bathroom, where you can choose from a hot soak under the double-headed rain shower, or a bubble bath in the free-standing tub.

The hot tub is to the side of the property on the patio area. Change into the bathrobes provided, and step through the living area’s patio doors. Enjoy brunch outside while you admire the view, and in the evenings take a wine from the cooler and sit under the star ceiling mood lighting that covers the pretty decked area at the front of the lodge.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

If you're a keen walker or have brought a four-legged friend along, there are walks straight from the doorstep. Head up onto the hills or go down to the bay and stroll along the sand. Dumfries and Galloway is a very quiet rural corner of Scotland, with all kinds of countryside from rolling fields and hills to hidden coves and beaches, so is a paradise for walkers of all abilities.

Local 'Food Town' Castle Douglas (11 miles) has a charming main street of independent shops and cafes selling fresh local produce and gifts, while National Trust for Scotland's Threave Garden, and Threave Castle, lie on its outskirts. Buy picnic food in the town, then spot local wildlife at the castle's nature reserve and admire the landscaping of the gardens.

If you're creative or simply love art, then spend an afternoon in the 'Artists' Town' of Kirkcudbright (12 miles), where you can feast your eyes on the work on display at National Trust for Scotland's Broughton House and Garden, Kirkcudbright Galleries, and the handful of small art galleries dotted around the harbour town. There is also the ruins of a castle, and a number of cafes perfect for a light lunch. Further along the coast is nearby Brighouse Bay (18 miles), a popular sandy beach.

This is an excellent way place to stay. Everything has been thought about really carefully. The hot tub was so lovely after a long day walking or exploring. Despite allowing dogs, everything was spotlessly clean. Would love to go again.
